Lots of shiny bits

I've been looking into how to make the rough looking donor parts into nice shiny new looking parts and it seems one way to go is sand blasting and then zinc plating or powder coating.

Here are a couple of companies near me that do this:

Sand Blasting & Powder Coating http://www.moransandblasting.co.uk/

Zinc Plating http://www.silchrome.co.uk/zincplating.html

Powder Coating https://www.facebook.com/pages/Thorp-Arch-Powder-coating/132041663618921

There are also some DIY options

Zinc Plating http://gaterosplating.co.uk/Zinc-Plating-kit.php

Powder Coating http://www.electrostaticmagic.co.uk/

I haven't worked out costs yet to see which is the best option. I'll update this when I do.

UPDATE: I decided to use POR15 and rebuild the parts myself. See later posts for how I achieved this.

Gearbox and Diff

I noticed a post today on gearboxes and diffs where it seems the best ratio for a diff is 3.58

This lead to the following website which showed a calculator for working out which gearbox was best for you.

Using this I figured the options below were worth which considering

Engines and Accessories

Its been a while and I am now picking up the research as I am getting closer to being able to start the build.

This article explains the changes in fuel over the years and shows why ethanol resistant fuel hoses are the way to go:

I have also found a couple of useful sites for classic car parts:

Also a few engine builders:

http://www.engine-data.co.uk/ - Yorkshire based and a good rep

http://www.realsteel.co.uk/ - commonly used amongst the cobra scene

http://www.roadcraftuk.co.uk/ - commonly used amongst the cobra scene

No doubt more will be posted soon :-)
